Scholarship Conditions and Academic Progress

Commencement

  • Your scholarship will be activated shortly after you have enrolled in your course, and payments are usually made after the census date.
  • Most scholarships can be deferred to the following calendar year if you receive permission to defer your course.
  • If your scholarship offer states specific conditions for deferral, you will need to provide reasons for seeking a deferral. Failure to start your course may result in the withdrawal of your scholarship.

Sponsored Scholarships

  • If you receive a scholarship or sponsorship from an external provider, your University of Melbourne scholarship will be withdrawn.

Making Changes

  • Scholarships generally cannot be extended beyond the maximum duration stated in your scholarship offer.
  • Leave of absence may result in an extension of your scholarship duration.
  • Part-time enrollment does not extend the duration of your scholarship.
  • If you receive scholarship payments while enrolled part-time, you must declare them as assessable income on your tax return.
  • During a leave of absence, you may still receive payment for previous semester prizes.

Withdrawal or Completion of Course

  • If you withdraw from or complete your course early, your scholarship will be completed, and any remaining scheduled payments will not be received.

Changing Courses

  • If your scholarship is conditional on maintaining enrollment in a specific course, withdrawing from your course and enrolling in another course at the University of Melbourne will result in the cessation of your scholarship.
  • In other cases, your scholarship will continue for the remaining duration.
  • Enrolling with another education provider will also lead to the cessation of your scholarship.

Concurrent Diplomas and Single Subjects

  • Some scholarships allow for an extension of up to one year when enrolling in a concurrent diploma.
  • Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholars may receive an exemption of the HECS Student Contribution for single subject enrolments at the University of Melbourne.
  • If applicable to your situation, contact the Scholarships team or Stop 1 to update your scholarship details.

Academic Progress

  • Some merit-based scholarships require recipients to maintain a minimum average result for each study period.
  • If you do not meet these requirements, you will be invited to show cause.
  • Failure to respond or provide compassionate or compelling reasons for not achieving the minimum average result may result in the suspension of your scholarship benefits.
