Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship Program

I. Introduction

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship Program, administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), is a financial support initiative that aims to assist international students pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. programs at eligible higher education institutions in Ireland. The program offers 60 scholarships to eligible candidates.

II. Eligibility Criteria To be eligible for the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must be international students, excluding those from the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland.
  2. Program of Study: Applicants must be applying for admission to a relevant Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program at one of the eligible universities or colleges in Ireland, offering full-time programs. The scholarship is available for the final year of an undergraduate program, one year of a taught master’s program, or one year of a research program.
  3. Admission Offer: Applicants must have a conditional or final admission offer from one of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ireland.
  4. Excellence: Applicants must demonstrate excellence academically, personally, professionally, and creatively. They should also possess excellent communication abilities and involvement in extracurricular activities such as humanitarian work, politics (local, national, international), arts, or sports.
  5. Study Rationale: Applicants must provide a strong rationale for studying in Ireland and explain how the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship aligns with their long-term goals.

Note: If an applicant has been accepted to more than one university, separate applications must be submitted for each course.

III. Application Process To apply for the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, applicants must follow these steps:

  1. Complete the online scholarship application form available on the Higher Education Authority’s official online portal.
  2. Submit the required documents, including academic qualifications, achievements or work experience, a personal statement answering three questions, two references, and any other necessary supporting materials.
  3. The selection process includes a marking scheme with a total of 100 marks, distributed among different requirements. For example, academic qualifications and work experience carry 40 marks, personal statements carry 45 marks (15 marks each), and references carry 15 marks.
  4. All scholarship applications must be submitted through the online portal before the deadline of 5 pm (Irish Time) on March 24, 2023.

IV. Selection Process The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship selection process involves the following steps:

  1. An independent International Assessment Panel will be established by the HEA to evaluate the applications based on the selection criteria.
  2. Applications will be assessed solely based on the provided material at the time of submission.
  3. Priority will be given to students who do not have alternative scholarships or funding options.
  4. The HEA will screen applications for eligibility, and the Higher Education Institution (HEI) will provide feedback on the international strategic objectives related to the applicant’s country of origin, proposed program of study, applicant’s field of study, and institutional capacity.
  5. Each application will be evaluated by two remote independent members of the Assessment Panel, and points will be allocated based on the evaluation criteria.
  6. The top twelve ranked applications will be automatically funded based on their excellence, while the remaining 48 scholarships will be allocated with consideration to factors such as the institution, field and level of study, and social benefit.

V. Scholarship Details

The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship provides eligible international students from non-EU/EEA countries with the opportunity to sponsor their education in Ireland. The scholarship details are as follows:

Now eligible international students have the opportunity to sponsor their education in Ireland through the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship. This scholarship is available for students from non-EU/EEA countries who want to study at an Irish university for one year. The scholarship provides a fund of €10,000 for one year of study in Ireland.

In the academic year 2023/2024, it is expected that a total of 60 scholarships will be offered by the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships.
